WAC reprimands UH's Bolla for comment on officials

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i women's basketball coach Jim Bolla was reprimanded by Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson today for comments he made about game officials last week.

The WAC said Bolla violated the league's sportsmanship code. Bolla made the comments after the Rainbow Wahine's 74-69 loss to Nevada on Feb. 9 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Bolla said: "We're the home team and we shoot six free throws and they shoot 20, are you (expletive) me? That's a joke. The commissioner wants to reprimand me, fine. But that was a joke."

Said Benson: "Coach Bolla's comments clearly violated the WAC code and will not be tolerated. Any further violation may result in him being suspended for a minimum of one game."

In a press release from the WAC today, Bolla said, "I apologize for my violation of the WAC Code and will work to better represent myself and our program in the future."
