Starwood captures Ala Wai Challenge

Starwood Hotels & Resorts was the overall winner at the Waikiki Community Center's Ala Wai Challenge last Sunday.
Starwood beat seven other teams in the All-Hotel Canoe and Outrigger Canoe races, tied for fifth in the Makahiki Games and was first in the huki kaula (tug of war).
The Beall Corp.-Waikiki Beach Boys Canoe Club was first in the Michael Tongg 'Ohana Memorial Canoe Race. HMSA won the outrigger canoe mixed division and Kawananakoa-Bartels No. 1 was first in the Makahiki Games.
The event honored water sports legends Anona Napoleon and Babe Bell.

FIREFIGHTER TO COMPETE IN EMPIRE STATE RUN UP
Honolulu firefighter Chris Miller is scheduled to compete in the 31st annual Empire State Building Run Up Tuesday in New York.
Miller, 33, took second in the Hustle Up the Hyatt in Honolulu last year, and has done the Honolulu Triathlon, bodybuilding contests and wilderness expeditions.
More than 100 runners participate in the race up 1,576 steps to the observatory deck on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building.
HOLY FAMILY STUDENT PICKED FOR JR. WNBA
Abrianna Edwards, a student at Holy Family Catholic Academy, was one of five girls selected to the Jr. WNBA National Team.
Edwards will attend the NBA All-Star Game, Feb. 17, in New Orleans.
Edwards, 12, was nominated by B.J. Bentley, athletic director for Hickam Youth Sports, based on her basketball skills, teamwork and attitude.
She submitted a video, completed an interview and an essay on why she should be chosen. She was picked from about 6,000 entries.
