Fire extinguished at HECO's Waiau power plant

Advertiser Staff

What appears to have been a rubbish fire in a storage room in Hawaiian Electric Co.'s Waiau power plant administrative building was apparently extinguished by the time Honolulu firefighters arrived at the scene around 12:55 p.m., according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig.

While apparatus and firefighters were being sent back to the station, fire officials are investigating the blaze, Seelig said.

HECO spokesman Darren Pai said operations were not affected by the fire and there were no injuries. Extent of the damage is unknown.

The plant is located along Kamehameha Highway near the H-1 Freeway overpass in Pearl City.
