BYUH wins PacWest tennis

The nationally top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i women's tennis team defeated Hawai'i Pacific, 5-1, yesterday to capture the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Tournament championship at St. George, Utah.
Top-ranked Elwen Li of BYUH beat No. 41 Ingrid Cseh, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 1 singles match, then teamed with Maggie Deng to beat Cseh and Lauren Shin, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles. Li was selected the tournament's MVP.
The Seasiders won three singles matches and two of three in doubles to improve to 25-0 with their 85th consecutive win. Three singles matches were not completed once the outcome was settled.
Elena Hudzikova and Tinka Mihova defeated Ayako Ikeda and Jenny Chin, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles for HPU's lone point.
Earlier, Eve Castaing won at No. 1 singles, then teamed with Christie Pagatpatan to win at No. 1 doubles, lifting Hawai'i-Hilo over Chaminade, 6-0, for third place.
Grand Canyon beat Dixie State College, 5-2, for fifth place.
WATER POLO
USC BEATS UH, 13-8
Michelle Stein scored four goals as No. 3 USC defeated No. 4 Hawai'i, 13-8, yesterday in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo match in Los Angeles.
Sarah Van Norman added three goals for the Trojans (16-6, 9-2 MPSF).
Lisa van Raalte scored three goals and Kelly Mason two for the Rainbow Wahine (15-8, 7-5).
GOLF
UH FINISHES 10TH
The University of Hawai'i women's golf team finished 10th in the 14-team Peg Barnard California Collegiate tournament at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
Corie Hou shot 76—150 to tie for 11th for the Rainbow Wahine, who shot 312—624.
Stanford, with 2005 Kamehameha Schools graduate Mari Chun tying for third with 74—146, won with 291—591.
Washington's Karinn Dickinson won with 71—142.
