Give Pearl City's Elmer Hew Len the prize already. He deserves it.

Hew Len, 67, a retired stevedore, won Week 9 of the Pigskin Picks contest and receives a trip for two to Las Vegas and $500.

"I played this game (from) back in the 1980s," he said. "Been faithful all these years."

Hew Len has been close many times but never won. He correctly picked the winners of all 15 games on the ballot and his ballot was selected randomly from the many who had perfect ballots.

"Feels great. I thought to myself, 'I finally got it. How lucky am I to get it now?' " he said. "I thought I'm not gonna get picked, so many getting perfect. I'm not that lucky."

Hew Len's picks included upsets Georgia over Florida and Iowa over Michigan State.

"I thought those were the key picks," he said.

"I have no strategy. Just go with the hunches and pick the upsets."

Winning, he admitted, was "pure luck."

Maybe not.

He usually submits one to two ballots. This time, he submitted the most ever — 7 — which happens to be his lucky number.
