Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i

The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i's Shichi Go San kimono-dressing event is booked up, but there are still opportunities to take part in this Japanese ritual for 3- and 7-year-old daughters and 3- and 5-year-old sons:

  • 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today and Nov. 18 at the University Laboratory School — all ages for girls, up to age 5 for boys. Bring your cameras. Donations welcome. Reservations: 947-8889, 956-8288.

  • Through November, by reservation only, at Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha — Hawaii Dazaifu Tenmangu, 1239 Olomea St. The event includes a blessing, omamori (Japanese amulet), goodie bag, kimono rental and dressing. $50 donation; 841-4755.
