The Arbor Day Tree Giveaway is planned for 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens.

National Arbor Day is in the spring, but is celebrated in November in Hawai'i to take advantage of winter rains. The annual event, held on the first Saturday in November, distributes 1,000 free trees to Maui County residents each year.

In addition to the tree giveaway, there will be educational booths, free water-saving devices and plant-care demonstrations. An Ask the Expert booth will provide advice on trees to pick for specific areas of Maui. The botanical gardens, at 150 Kanaloa Ave. in Kahului, will be open for free self-guided tours.
