Talk focuses on threat to whales

The Pacific Whale Foundation's Making Waves Lecture Series will present a free talk at 6 p.m. today by Marsha Green on high-intensity sonar and naval activities around the Hawaiian Islands that could affect marine mammals and fish.
The event will be held at the foundation's Discovery Center at The Harbor Shops at Ma'alaea.
Green, founder of the Ocean Mammal Institute, is a professor at Albright College who has done research on the impact of thrill craft, boats and engine noise on whales and dolphins and on humpback whale social vocalizations.
