Hawaii boxers lose in semifinals

The two remaining Hawai'i boxers lost in the semifinals of the Junior Olympic National Championships yesterday at the Superior Dome in Marquette, Mich.

Joey Montoya of Colorado Springs, Colo., stopped Jacob Callos of Kahului, Maui, in the first round at 189 pounds.

Randy Caballero of Coachella, Calif., took a walkover win over Gino Ramos of Honolulu at 110 pounds. Ramos withdrew with a sprained left wrist.


GOLF

$1 MILLION SHOOTOUT

One golfer could win $1 million on the July 4 holiday at Waikoloa Resort.

The $1 million Hole-in-One Shootout begins Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to noon, with a qualifying round at the Waikoloa Kings' practice range. A $10 donation is good for four balls and a $20 donation for 10 balls.

The closest-to-the-hole winner qualifies for a $1 million shot at the ninth hole of the Waikoloa Beach course at 2:45 p.m. Proceeds benefit United Cerebral Palsy of Hawai'i.

VOLLEYBALL

CLASSES AT HALAWA

A five-week series called SERVE (Skills Enrichment for the Real Volleyball Enthusiast) starts July 12 at Halawa Gym. The program is for girls and boys ages 8 to 14.

Two-hour classes meet Thursday nights at 6 p.m. through Aug. 9. Cost is $90. Information: call Jan at 256-9505.
