SUNSET BEACH
Halt sought to skatepark work

Advertiser Staff

Some North Shore community members are asking the city to halt work on the Banzai Rock Skatepark until concerns over the new design can be discussed.

The park, contracted in 2003, was designed by Dreamland Skateparks, but construction didn't begin until last year, then stalled earlier this year because of soil conditions. Now the contractor wants to redesign the park and bring in a new designer, but park advocates oppose the move.

James Cuizon, skatepark advocate, said the community has called for a meeting to resolve issues.

To highlight concerns, a protest will be held at the park's construction site this morning, Cuizon said.
