UPCOUNTRY
Cuts ordered in water use

Advertiser Staff

The Board of Water Supply has issued a drought warning for the Upcountry Maui area.

With the warning, a mandatory 10 percent reduction in water consumption is required for all nonagricultural customers in all Upcountry systems.

Affected areas include Ha'iku, Makawao, Olinda, Hali'imaile, Pukalani, Kula, Oma'opio, Pulehu, Keokea, 'Ulupalakua, Kanaio and Waiohuli.

Farmers have a 30-day waiver from the restrictions.

Residents in the affected areas are also advised to remove flammable vegetation from areas within 10 feet of structures to reduce the risk of fire.
