DTRIC Insurance Underwriters Ltd. will begin offering commercial insurance to Hawai'i's midsized businesses, with coverages including property, umbrella, commercial auto and general liability, the state insurance commissioner announced yesterday.

"DTRIC Insurance is a strong, successful local carrier with a proven track record in the insurance industry in Hawai'i," said state Insurance Commissioner J.P. Schmidt. "Commercial insurance is an area of particular concern for midsized businesses."

NO SIGNS OF TB ON SHIP WORKERS

None of the additional workers tested from the Norwegian Cruise Line ship Pride of America showed signs of having active or contagious tuberculosis, a state Health Department spokeswoman said yesterday.

The state tested 204 NCL workers in June after an employee of the cruise liner tested positive for active tuberculosis in May. Twenty-one workers had positive skin tests showing they were exposed to TB at some point in their lives, but follow-up tests showed that none had active TB, said Health Department spokeswoman Janice Okubo.

"Thirty percent of the world tests positive on skin tests," Okubo said.

The Health Department plans to do another round of testing of the 204 employees later this month, Okubo said. "We're still in the middle of the investigation, and Norwegian Cruise Line has been cooperating," she said.
