MAUNALUA BAY
Bridge lights being reviewed

Advertiser Staff

A bill to pay for navigation lights on the bridge over Kalaniana'ole Highway is pending review in the state House Finance Committee.

Advocates say the lights would allow boaters to see the bridge better at night.

The bill passed the state House Transportation Committee on Feb. 14. The bill calls for the state Department of Transportation to install the lights at the entrance to the Hawai'i Kai Marina.

"The whole channel needs to be properly illuminated for navigation," said Steve Carr, Hawai'i Kai Marina Association president.

"Lighting the bridge would be a good first step."
