POUHALA MARSH RESTORATION — The Hawai'i Nature Center is restoring Pouhala Marsh in Waipahu. Volunteers are needed to pull pickleweed and mangrove 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday. Bring work gloves, water, hat, sunscreen, towel and change of clothes; covered footwear and long pants required. Contact Pauline Kawamata at 955-0100, ext. 18.

CRATER OVERNIGHTERS — Friends of Haleakala National Park will plant native plants Saturday to next Monday at Holua Cabin. Information and reservations: (808) 876-1673.

WHALE COUNT — The Hawaiian Island Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary is seeking volunteers on Feb. 24 and March 31, to assist with the Ocean Count, which collects data on whale sightings and behavior at more than 65 sites off O'ahu, Kaua'i and the Big Island. NATIVE FOREST PLANTING — The Maui Dryland Forest Restoration Group is holding a planting trip to the Auwahi native forest enclosure, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25; meet at 'Ulupalakua Ranch Store. PU'U WA'AWA'A SERVICE TRIP — The Sierra Club is organizing volunteer service trips to Pu'u Wa'awa'a on the Big Island on March 24-31. Activities include planting, invasive-species control and fence repair, with time for hiking in a forest bird sanctuary. Limited to 12 people; must be Sierra Club members. RESTORE WILD PLACES — Ka'ala Farm is seeking groups to assist in floral restoration of five West O'ahu sites — in Kalaeloa, Nanakuli, Wai'anae, Makaha and Makua. Groups should be willing to commit to two to 12 volunteer days a year. Contact Bruce Koebele: 696-4954 or holopono@pixi.com.

WEED & POT CLUB — Maui Nui Botanical Garden's Weed & Pot Club meets 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays at 150 Kanaloa Ave. in Kahului to work on nursery plants and perform other tasks. Tools, gloves and drinking water provided; bring sunscreen, wear shoes.
