TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Miss Teen USA," 7 p.m., NBC. On a quiet summer Friday, we can settle for a live show with lots of youthful energy and upbeat music. Mario Lopez, who has hosted everything from "Pet Star" to the Miss America pageant, is in charge. Kat DeLuna, 19, sings "Whine Up"; the Jonas Brothers combine "Hold On" and "S.O.S." Last year's winner, Katie Blair, is from Montana, which isn't usually a pageant powerhouse. Her successor will be chosen via swimsuit, evening gown and interview judging.
"Monk," 9 p.m., and "Psych," 10 p.m., both on USA. We haven't seen these two episodes, but both provide smart, dependable mysteries. Monk is depressed that his rival, Harold Krenshaw, is a popular daredevil in disguise. On "Psych," some child prodigies feel their teacher is a serial killer. To investigate, Shawn and Gus pretend to be guest lecturers.
OF NOTE
Football, 2 p.m., CBS. New England is at Carolina, for a preseason game.
"Wedding Crashers" (2005) 5 p.m., HBO; "Center Stage" (2000) 8 p.m., ABC Family or "The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement" (2004), 8 p.m., Disney Channel. Here's Friday fun. HBO has laughs with Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson. ABC Family has good moves in a drama about ballet students. And Disney has a so-so trifle from people who have done better things, including Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway, director Garry Marshall and writer Shonda Rhimes ("Grey's Anatomy").
"Flash Gordon," 6 p.m., Sci Fi. Last week's episode, a rather awful one, did have one plus: It plunked a fierce huntress on Earth, where she has little chance to fit in. That leads to some humor early in this hour. After that, the story deteriorates quickly, including some awful slapstick about keeping a friend from dying of joy.
"The Animal" (2001), 7 p.m., Fox. Rob Schneider wakes up after an accident and finds he's been transplanted with the organs of various animals. Please don't tell anyone if you choose this over "Godfather" and "Lord of the Rings."
"The George Lopez Show," 8 and 8:30 p.m., ABC. In the first rerun, George bets his wife he can live more frugally than she can. In the second, his estranged dad needs him for a father-son golf tournament.
