More recycling items accepted

County transfer stations are accepting additional items in mixed recycling drop-off bins at Hawi, Honoka'a, Keauhou, Laupahoehoe, Pahoa, Pahala, Puako and Waimea.

It is now OK to recycle paperboard or boxboard, such as cereal and snack food boxes; No. 1 and No. 2 plastics, such as milk jugs, detergent and bleach bottles; metal cans, including rinsed tuna and cat food cans and soup cans; newspapers and magazines; flattened cardboard and brown paper bags; mixed office paper and junk mail, except for Brite paper; and phone books and paperbacks torn into three or four sections.
