HPU, UH-Hilo split in baseball

Jason Shimizu allowed three hits in seven strong innings and Hawai'i Pacific beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 4-1, yesterday in the first game of a baseball doubleheader at Francis Wong Stadium in Hilo.
Shimizu (7-2) struck out four and faced just three batters over the minimum. Michael Kealoha, Tripper Chung and Johnny Gentry had one RBI apiece for the Sea Warriors (21-24).
In the second game, A.J. Satele's one-out, two-run single broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Hawai'i Pacific, 5-3.
Satele finished 3-for-3. Lars Knepper (3-6) allowed three runs, one earned, in seven innings to earn the win for the Vulcans (12-28).
SOFTBALL
HPU SPLITS TWINBILL
Puna Waiolama singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as Hawai'i Pacific beat Dixie State College (Utah), 5-4, yesterday in the first game of a women's softball doubleheader at HPU Windward Field.
The Sea Warriors (31-11) loaded the bases in the 10th with one out against Jessie Dunn before Waiolama's single scored Tajia Acierto.
In the second game, Ashlee Olson allowed two hits in five innings as Dixie State beat Hawai'i Pacific, 4-0.
Amy Gleicher drove in two runs for the Rebels (35-12).
TENNIS
LAJOLA GAINS SEMIFINAL
'Aiea's Dennis Lajola defeated Jeff Dadamo of Tampa, Fla., 1-6, 7-6, 6-4, yesterday to advance to the semifinals of the International Tennis Federation Boys 18-and-under National Championship at Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Lajola, 18, who trained at the Nick Bollettieri Academy, will play for the University of Hawai'i next season.
TRACK AND FIELD
WEAVER PLACES 27TH
University of Hawai'i junior Meghan Weaver placed 27th in the hammer throw with her toss of 154 feet, 2 inches after the first day of the rain-shortened UC San Diego Triton Invitational yesterday at La Jolla, Calif.
Also competing for UH were Ava Marie Cavaco, who threw 141-11 and placed 36th and Brittani Daniels, who threw 125-5 for 47th place at Triton Stadium.
Jenny Dahlgren of Georgia won the event with a toss of 230-9.
BOXING
AMATEUR BOUTS SET
An amateur boxing show will be held today at 7 p.m. at Momilani Community Center in Pearl City.
There will be 17 bouts sanctioned by the USA Boxing, Inc., Hawai'i Association. Cost is $10.

WISA AT PIPELINE

RODEO
WAI'ANAE EVENT TODAY
The first jackpot rodeo of the 2007 season will be held today at 10 a.m. at Diamond J Ranch in Wai'anae.
The rodeo is sanctioned by the Hawai'i Women's Rodeo Association and will feature Open, 3D and Keiki Barrel Racing and Pole-Bending.
Admission and parking is free.
