Students head to Lego festival

Advertiser Staff

The Moanalua Middle School robotics team will fly to Atlanta today to compete in the FIRST Lego League World Festival.

The team of 10 seventh- and eighth-grade students earned the right to represent the state in the festival in December, when they won the Hawai'i state regional competition. The tournament includes 94 teams from 22 countries, according to the FIRST Lego League Web site. FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.

The Moanalua Middle School team will present a robot they designed with Lego as well as a research project on nanotechnology to clean up sewage spills.
