Carroll captures golf event

Scott Carroll, of Kapalua Village Course, shot a final-round 3-under-par 69 yesterday to capture the Aloha Section TaylorMade-adidas Golf PGA Assistant Professional Championship.
Carroll finished with a 36-hole score of 3-over 147 at Ko Olina Golf Club.
Jason Deigert (70—148) finished second, followed by Lance Taketa (76—149) and Joey Tadeo (74—149).
Carroll, who earned $2,000, and Deigert will represent the Aloha Section in the national tournament, Oct. 26 to 29, at The PGA Golf Club South Course in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Taketa beat Tadeo in a playoff to earn first-alternate honors.

PETERS HONORED
Brigham Young-Hawai'i outside hitter Michelle "Tuli" Peters has been named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Peters averaged 6.83 kills and 3.83 digs per game in leading BYUH to victories over Hawai'i Pacific and Chaminade.

PATACCHIA ADVANCES
Fred Patacchia Jr. of O'ahu's North Shore won his second-round heat in the Boost Mobile Pro men's surfing contest yesterday.
The second round was completed in 3- to 4-foot waves at Lower Trestles off San Clemente, Calif.
Patacchia had one of the top heats of the day, receiving a two-wave total of 16.27 to defeat France's Mikael Picon's 12.5.
Fellow Hawai'i surfers Bruce Irons, Pancho Sullivan and Jamie O'Brien were eliminated yesterday.

SEATTLE SPANKS CU
Cameron Mertens and Craig Buitrago each scored two goals, and Dustin Allbery had four assists as Seattle beat host Chaminade, 8-0, yesterday in a men's match.
Seattle, which took 27 shots on goal, improved to 6-2. Goalkeeper Darren Smith made 19 saves for Chaminade (0-4).

LAM POSTS UPSET
Honolulu's Chris Lam upset seventh-seeded Lester Cook, 6-2, 6-4, yesterday in the first round of the Pomona Valley Pro Classic.
The $10,000 USTA Futures event is being played at Claremont Club in California.
