Jason Taylor, The Honolulu Advertiser's advertising director, has been named the paper's vice president/sales.

Taylor replaces Jeff Green, who has been appointed president and publisher of the Asheville (N.C.) Citizen-Times.

"Jason has demonstrated his sales leadership, and I can't think of a better person to drive our revenue objectives at this time," Advertiser Publisher Mike Fisch said. Taylor's appointment takes effect immediately.

Taylor, 32, was recently named one of 13 award-of-excellence winners among Gannett Co.'s retail and classified advertising managers. Last month, Taylor won Gannett's Chairman's Award for contributions to the company and potential for future contributions.

He joined The Advertiser in 2004 as retail ad director and was promoted a year later. Before joining the paper in 2004, Taylor was the general manager for The Times in Gainesville, Ga., and the director of advertising and marketing of The Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The Citizen-Times is part of the Gannett Co. network of newspapers, which includes The Advertiser.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Jeff (Green), and I know he will be successful in his new role," said Fisch.

"He's made great contributions to The Advertiser during his tenure, and I thank him for those and the team he has built."

Green's appointment is effective immediately.

Taylor is active in the community. He is:

  • On the board of directors of Sales & Marketing Executives International Honolulu.

  • On the board of directors for HUGS (Help, Understanding and Group Support), a Hawai'i nonprofit that provides services to families with children with life-threatening illnesses.

  • President of the Kamiloiki Elementary School PTSA.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to continue to take The Honolulu Advertiser to the next level," Taylor said. "Over the past few years, I've been impressed with our advertising staff's ability to embrace new ways to help our customers. I work with an incredible team whose dedication has led to tremendous growth for The Advertiser."

Taylor and his wife, Honey, have three children: Hope, 7, Haley, 5, and Jackson, 3.
