BYUH volleyball team stays unbeaten

Junior outside hitter Michelle "Tuli" Peters had 24 kills and 23 blocks as eighth-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i rallied past Notre Dame de Namur, 30-32, 30-14, 30-24, 30-20, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball match at Belmont, Calif.
Noelle Filimoeatu added 23 kills and 16 digs for the Seasiders, who improved to 13-0 overall and 9-0 in the PacWest.
Setter LeeAnn Mapu contributed 62 assists and 10 digs, and Lesina Funaki added 16 digs to help BYUH overcome 29 hitting errors.
Emily Evans had 14 kills and Radford graduate Sonya Legaspi had 16 digs for the Argos (7-16, 0-8), who committed just one hitting error in winning the first game.

BLUTHENTHAL HONORED
Chaminade outside hitter Evelyn Bluthenthal has been named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week.
Bluthenthal, a 6-foot-1 junior from Los Angeles, led the Silverswords (12-3 overall, 7-1 PacWest) to three conference victories last week.
She amassed 41 kills (4.56 per game) and 38 digs in two victories over Hawai'i-Hilo and one over Hawai'i Pacific.
SOCCER
KAI MAKES U.S. TEAM
Natasha Kai, a Kahuku High and University of Hawai'i alum, has been named to the 18-player U.S. women's roster for Sunday's game against Iceland in Richmond, Va.
The U.S. women are 12-0-3 this year, with an unbeaten streak of 25 games in regulation time.
After Sunday's match, the U.S. team travels to South Korea for the 2006 Peace Queen Cup Korea from Oct. 28 to Nov. 4.
SIX IN ROW FOR BYUH
Emily Mearns scored two goals and Jill Haar one as the Brigham Young-Hawai'i women's soccer team defeated Embry-Riddle, 3-0, yesterday at Prescott, Ariz.
The Seasiders outshot the Eagles 24-8 to extend their winning streak to six games and improve their record to 6-1.
Embry-Riddle fell to 4-9-1.
TRIATHLON
ENTRIES STILL AVAILABLE
Entries are still available for Sunday's Ko Olina Triathlon and Saturday's Jamba Juice Keiki Triathlon Championship at Ko Olina.
Packet pickup and registration for the Ko Olina Triathlon is 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Jamba Juice near Sports Authority in Ward Center. Another packet pickup and registration is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ko Olina Lagoon Four.
The packet pickup and late registration for the keiki triathlon for ages 7 to 14 also will be at 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Jamba Juice near Sports Authority in the Ward Center.
The Ko Olina Triathlon, a 660-meter swim, 30-kilometer bike and 4.5-mile run, begins at 7 a.m. Sunday at the Ko Olina Resort Marina. The Keiki Triathlon is Saturday at 8 a.m., also at the marina. The course includes a 50-meter swim, 1-mile bike ride and a half-mile run for ages 7 and 8. Youths ages 8 to 14 will do a 100-meter swim, 2.5-mile bike ride and 1.3-mile run.
