Preschool program's opening day nears

Keiki O Ka 'Aina Family Learning Centers will launch its free Accelerated Interactive Montessori Home Instruction, a home-based preschool curriculum designed to get Hawaiian children ages 3 and 4 ready for kindergarten, on Oct. 16 on O'ahu.

Parents will meet weekly with instructors at a designated site. There is no cost to participate, and program materials are provided to children for free. Sites are accepting enrollment for the program, which will be held at these locations and times:

  • Kuhio Elementary School, 2759 King St., Room C6; Mondays 9 to 10:30 a.m.; orientation: 9 a.m. Oct. 16.

  • 'Ewa Elementary School, 91-1280 Renton Road, cafeteria; Tuesdays 8:30 to 10 a.m.; orientation: 8:30 a.m. Oct. 17.

  • Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center in Nanakuli, 89-101 Farrington Highway; Wednesdays 9 to 10:30 a.m.; orientation: 9 a.m. Oct. 18.

  • Waimanalo Hawaiian Homes Association Community Center, Room 102, 41-253 'Ilauhole St.; Thursdays 9 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.; orientation: 9 a.m. Oct. 19.

    For enrollment information, call Keiki O Ka 'Aina Family Learning Centers at 843-2502. Applications are being accepted through Nov. 3 from families of Hawaiian children 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years old.
