American vehicles are using 938 million more gallons of gasoline now than in 1960 simply because average drivers and passengers weigh about 25 pounds more than they did then, dragging down fuel efficiency. At $3 per gallon, that represents enough gas to power all U.S. cars for three days, according to a University of Illinois study.

FUNDRAISER TONIGHT FOR JAMES GAZELLE

Friends of James Gazelle, a 29-year-old Honolulu resident left paralyzed after back surgery, will hold a fundraiser for him from 5:30 to 9 tonight at Don Ho's Island Grill.
