Police seek leads to missing man, 39

HILO — Big Island police are looking for a missing Hilo man.
Alvin Western Huffman IV, 39, was last seen Nov. 4, but called in sick to his Hilo workplace on Nov. 6.
Huffman, who has no permanent address, is Caucasian, 5 feet 10, 165 pounds, with green eyes and short brown hair, police said.
His only means of transportation is a blue mountain bike. He wears prescription glasses with thick black frames, and often wears a NASCAR baseball cap, police said.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call Officer Derek Morimoto at 961-2213 or the Police Department's non-emergency number at 935-3311.
2 FIRES AT 1 HOUSE CONSIDERED ARSON
HILO — Big Island police are investigating two suspicious house fires in the 'Ainaloa subdivision in Puna.
On Oct. 31, firefighters were called at about 12:36 a.m. to a structure fire at the lower level of a home under construction on Jewel Road. Fire inspectors determined that the fire was suspicious, and called in detectives from the Criminal Investigations Section.
On Nov. 6, police and firefighters were again called to the same site at about 12:02 a.m., and found the structure engulfed in flames.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and again concluded the fire was suspicious, police said. The structure was considered a total loss.

$350K DAMAGE IN BIG ISLAND FIRE
Flames engulfed a three-bedroom house in Kailua on the Big Island yesterday, causing $350,000 in damage, the Hawai'i County Fire Department said.
The fire happened about 11:54 a.m. yesterday at 75-0261 Pumehana St. No one was at home when the blaze started.
Thirteen firefighters helped put out the flames.
Fire investigators had not determined what caused the fire. The American Red Cross of Hawai'i was assisting the family.

BENEFIT SATURDAY AT LILI'UOKALANI
Queen Lili'uokalani Elementary School will hold its first Holiday Faire from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday featuring KC Drive Inn's waffle dogs and ono ono shakes, a silent auction, crafts, games, and a book sale.
Proceeds from the event will go toward enrichment programs for the school. Parking is free on the campus.
