WHAT ARE YOU READING?
I describe myself as a multiple reader because I usually read more than one book at a time. Right now I'm reading three books. The first is "Fiasco" by Thomas Ricks, about the start-up to the war in Iraq. I also recently bought Barack Obama's new book, "The Audacity of Hope." And then I'm also reading Michael Connelly's "Echo Park," a mystery; I really enjoy reading mysteries. I also love the Harry Potter books and can't wait until the next one.
DO YOUR CHOICES REFLECT YOUR THIRST FOR INFORMATION AND DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES?
Yes, and I also like books that are well researched and well documented and accurate. But in mysteries, it's pure escapism and enjoyment.
WHAT ARE YOU TAKING FROM OBAMA'S BOOK?
I'm just interested in his perspective. He's a very engaging person, and I decided I'd like to read about him.
FROM THE GLUT OF IRAQ OFFERINGS, HOW DID YOU CHOOSE "FIASCO"?
I read a lot of political books. I read for the information and enjoyment, not for any particular agenda. This one, in particular, is very well researched and well documented. I watched him being interviewed, and it wasintriguing, so I bought the book.
DOES READING SHAPE YOUR POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY?
I have a tremendous love of reading, and I also like to learn about things, and that definitely is something you should have if you're going to be in public life. You should also base your decisions on facts. What I read informs my decisions. My love of reading has helped me in everything that I do.
