Two people were killed and three people critically injured yesterday in three traffic accidents on O'ahu.

Three other people suffered less serious injuries. The deaths were the 39th and 40th on O'ahu roads this year, compared with 30 at this time last year.

About 3:45 a.m., an 18-year-old man was killed and four others were injured when the car they were in rolled over in a single-vehicle accident on Kaukonahua Road near Waialua, police said.

The car was traveling toward Waialua when it crashed at the "S" turn near the town, Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said. Police said the crash occurred six-tenths of a mile from the intersection with Farrington Highway.

The car went out of control and veered off the right side of the road, police said. It flipped and came to rest upside down on the shoulder of the road.

Two people were thrown from the car. The 18-year-old man died and another male was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, Cheplic said.

A 16-year-old girl riding in the middle of the front seat was taken to Queen's in serious condition.

Two other 18-year-old men, one of whom was the driver, suffered minor injuries.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH

About 12 hours later in Waimanalo, a 21-year-old Kane-'ohe woman was fatally injured and a man critically injured when their motorcycle collided with a van.

Police said the van, traveling toward Makapu'u on Kalaniana'ole Highway, was making a left turn onto Aloiloi Street when the Kailua-bound motorcycle broadsided it on the passenger side.

A man in his 20s who was driving the motorcycle was taken to Queen's in critical condition, police said.

The passenger, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to Castle Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 4:10 p.m.

The van's driver was not hurt and a child in a safety seat had minor injuries, police said.

In 'Ewa Beach, a man was critically injured when his moped collided head-on with a vehicle yesterday afternoon at 91-1080 Kaimalie St.

He was taken to Queen's, Cheplic said.
