ON THE WEB
DATA ON PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN HAWAI'I
A new Web site to help parents, students and educators access achievement information about their own public school has been launched in Hawai'i as part of a national network that offers help for the public in evaluating schools.
The Just for the Kids — Hawai'i site provides comparative data for each school on math, English and "all subjects" areas plus other information about individual schools, including their enrollments and a breakdown of the numbers of students in specific categories such as low income and English as a second language.
It also offers information on schools in other states and ways individuals can help a school improve.

CRUISE, YOU MAY LOSE
Completing academically challenging courses in high school dramatically increases the likelihood of earning a bachelor's degree, according to a newly released study by the U.S. Department of Education. The Toolbox Revisited: Paths to Degree Completion From High School Through College found that the academic rigor of a high school curriculum is the strongest indicator of postsecondary degree completion, regardless of a student's major course of study.
