THE ENVELOPE, PLEASE: Sunday's Academy Awards could yield surprises, but here's how we see 'em:

  • Best Picture: "Brokeback Mountain."

  • Best Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Capote."

  • Best Supporting Actor: Paul Giamatti, "Cinderella Man."

  • Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon, "Walk the Line."

  • Best Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz, "The Constant Gardener."

  • Best Director: Ang Lee, "Brokeback Mountain."

  • Best Song: "Travelin' Thru," by Dolly Parton, "Transamerica."

    The Hawaii International Film Festival again hosts Oscar Night America, a black-tie hoopla from 3 p.m. Sunday at a downtown location. Participants will watch the ABC telecast live (the public sees it tape-delayed from 7 p.m., after a 6 p.m. preshow special on KITV-4) and enjoy food and drinks.     SCENE 'N' HEARD: Frannie Kirk and Jimmy Borges arranged a surprise birthday party for Karen Ruivivar, spouse of the Society of Seven's Tony Ruivivar, at Le Bistro in Niu Valley last Saturday. The restaurant was a "Luminary City," as Borges remarked, jammed with notables including the Joe Moores, the George Ariyoshis (with daughter Lynn), the Fred Lees, the David Wilsons and the David McNeils, plus Chief Justice Ronald Moon. Then folks like Lisa Josephsohn, Joey Caldarone and Rex Nockengust popped in. Ruivivar and Borges became a Society of Two, singing (as waiters with napkins on arms) Happy Birthday to Lynn and (David) Wilson. Of course, the Ruivivar table (which included Vicki Borges and Judy Dancer) sang Happy Birthday to Karen, after which Debbie Takasaki, who, with husband Alan own Le Bistro, thanked Kirk, Borges and Ruivivar for all the extras — then comped their dinners. "Talk about singing for your supper," said Borges. ...

    Shari Lynn and Jimmy Borges will be up for bid, to do a private show for 12 at La Pietra. It's one of the biddables in the school's "Hoopla" benefit March 11 at The Kahala. Tickets: $200 (call 922-2744). ...

    Shari Lynn and keyboarder Don Conover drew Vanita Rae Smith, John Rampage, Azure McCall, Star Williams and Augie Rey last weekend at Shanghai Bistro. ...

    "Lost" actress Michelle Rodriguez and pals were pub-crawling last Saturday at thirtyninehotel. ...

    The Atlantis Navatek Cruise has a new salutation, "Malo e lelei" ("hello," in Tongan), since Princess Salote Mafile'o Pilolevu Tuku'aho Tuita of Tonga took a sunset dinner cruise. Aboard, the princess recognized old pals Indru and Gulab Watumull. ...

    The Hannemann brothers — Mufi, Nephi and Gus — dined Friday at Kit 'n Kitchen on University Avenue after watching Iolani beat Kaimuki in a basketball game at Stan Sheriff Center. ...

    Great honor for "Coach" Larry Price, KSSK's morning drive co-anchor, who is being saluted by the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's inaugural fundraising dinner, "Katoosh — Education Through Athletics," tonight at the Hawai'i Ballroom of the Sheraton Waikiki hotel. Price was a University of Hawai'i football coach, played in three Hula Bowls and provides color commentary for OIA games on Oceanic Time-Warner. ...

    Augie Rey (who performs Fridays and Saturdays at the Elks Club) attracts many locals such as Danny Kaleikini, Iva Kinimaka, Nephi Hannemann, Keith and Carmen Haugen, Gary Aiko, Marlene Sai, Shari Lynn, Eddie Sherman, Don Stroud and Ann McCormack. ...
