TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Ghost Whisperer," 7 p.m., CBS. This series emerged as a quick ratings success. Here's another chance to see the pilot episode. Jennifer Love Hewitt plays Melinda, a newlywed who sees dead people who need favors. John Gray, one of TV's best directors, made the pilot and stuck around as producer, finding the right balance between fantasy and ordinary life. He also came up with perfect casting. That includes Hewitt and her first ghost — played by Wentworth Miller, who was about to star in "Prison Break." For him, it's been a very good year.

OF NOTE

"Runaway Jury" (2003), 5 and 7:30 p.m., TNT. John Grisham's story stretches believability to the breaking point, but it's richly entertaining. A complex court case has Dustin Hoffman on one side and Gene Hackman on the other with John Cusack as a rogue juror. They're part of a great cast that includes Rachel Weisz, Jeremy Piven, Jennifer Beals, Orlando Jones and more.

"The Animal" (2001), 7 p.m., Fox. Rob Schneider plays a hapless accident victim who learns he's had lots of transplants — from a horse, a dog, a dolphin and more. Naturally, this alters his behavior in a comedy not aimed for subtlety.

"Along Came Polly" (2004), 8 and 10 p.m., USA Network. Ben Stiller plays a cautious guy, a risk manager by trade. Then he meets a carefree sort (Jennifer Aniston). There are a lot of sight gags but the two stars make this a reasonably enjoyable comedy.

"Windfall," 8 p.m., NBC. If you missed this show's debut Thursday, here's a rerun. Sharply written and directed, it offers interesting stories of people who win more than $19 million apiece in the lottery.

"Reality Bites" (1994), 9 p.m., Oxygen. After seeing Ben Stiller in such silly pleasures as "Along Came Polly," it's easy to forget what a brilliant talent he is. Given a flawed-but-interesting script, he made his directing debut, giving the film some wonderful moments. Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke are excellent in the leads; Stiller discovered Lisa Loeb for the soundtrack.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. A murder victim is traced back to a gay club, where Fin's son had visited.
