Kaneko second in Junior World

Honolulu's Ayaka Kaneko shot a 6-under-par 68 yesterday to finish one stroke behind winner Mika Miyazato in the girls 15 to 17 age division of the Callaway Golf Junior World Championships at La Jolla, Calif.

Kaneko, a 16-year-old Sacred Hearts student, finished at 15-under 281 at the Torrey Pines' North Course. Miyazato, of Japan, also shot a 68 yesterday and finished at 280.

Kaneko sank six birdies and no bogeys for her best round of the tournament. She was one of 33 players who played in the final round after the cut on Thursday.

In the boys 15 to 17 age division, Maui's Thomas Robertson shot a 6-over 78 in the final round and finished tied for 32nd.

Robertson, a recent King Kekaulike graduate from Pukalani, shot 13-over 301.

Matthew Giles of Australia shot a 72 to win by nine strokes with an 8-under 280 total.

Fifty-three golfers played in the final round after the cut on Thursday.
