On way: valet parking at airport

Running late for a business trip to Maui and worried about finding a parking space before the plane leaves the gate? Relax. Just toss the car keys to the valet and head for check-in.
You'll be able to do just that starting Saturday, when the state Transportation Department begins its first valet parking service at Honolulu International Airport.
The program, available seven days a week from 5 a.m. until the last flight at night, is a pilot project to determine how much demand there is for such a service, said Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Ishikawa.
Travelers will be able to drop off their cars on the second-floor departure level of the Interisland Terminal Building, Ishikawa said. The cars will be parked near the terminal and can be claimed at the same location.
The cost for the valet parking is $20 per day or any part of the day. Regular parking costs up to $10 per day. If the new valet service at the Interisland Terminal proves popular, it may be expanded to other locations, Ishikawa said.
