The city and The Honolulu Advertiser are throwing a milestone birthday and anniversary party (100 years for the city, 150 for the newspaper) and everyone is invited.

On the menu:

  • A really, really big cake. At 15 feet by 18 feet, the confection created by The Patisserie (see stats, right) can feed 10,000 attendees — a free slice for everyone, served at 11:30 a.m. And 10,000 free cups of ice cream from Meadow Gold. Bring your cameras!

  • The documentary "Ho-nolulu: 100 Years in the Making," screening repeatedly in the Mission Memorial Auditorium. You can also catch a screening at tonight's Sunset on the Beach in Waikiki; see story on this page.

  • Food booths, including Kazi Foods' fried chicken and corn on the cob, Zippy's chili and Shanghai Bistro's sugarcane shrimp on jasmine rice.

  • Lots of entertainment:

10:30 a.m. Roland Cazimero and Friends

11:20 a.m. Navy Pacific Fleet Band

    12:05 p.m. Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom

    1:25 p.m. Brother Noland

    2:20 p.m. Sean Na'auao

    3:05 p.m. Squirrel Hunters

  • Keiki activities such as inflatables and rides.

  • About a dozen organizations, including the Hawaiian Humane Society and Diamond Head Theatre, will offer activities as they showcase their programs.

  • The contents of a time capsule, to be opened in 100 years, will be announced at 1:05 p.m. Among them will be Advertiser readers' song suggestions and other items that reflect the Hawai'i of the past 150 years.

Where to park? Street parking is free, and so is the Civic Center parking lot at Beretania and Alapa'i streets.
