Honolulu firefighters yesterday rescued an injured college student at Maunawili Falls.
The young woman, in her 20s, was at the falls with other students from Brigham Young University-Hawai'i when she jumped from the falls and injured herself shortly before 4:30 p.m., said Fire Capt. Kenison Tejada.
The woman complained of back pain, so firefighters hiked in and secured her to a backboard.
Air One, the fire department helicopter, took her to Emergency Medical Services paramedics.
EMS district supervisor Jason Kaneshiro said paramedics took her to Queen's Medical Center in serious but "very stable" condition.
