Despite smoke, Aloha flight lands normally

Rescue and emergency personnel were called out as a precaution last night after a pilot smelled smoke on an Aloha Airlines flight from Honolulu to Hilo. The plane landed normally and there were no injuries, an airline official said.
When Flight 49 was 10 minutes from Hilo, the pilot smelled smoke in the cabin, said airline spokesman Stu Glauberman . The pilot notified officials at the Hilo airport, and rescue personnel and fire trucks were scrambled to prepare for the plane's landing. Glauberman said the plane made a normal landing at 7:44 p.m. The 92 passengers disembarked "under normal conditions," he said.
The cause of the problem was a faulty fan that was replaced, Glauberman said.
