Suspect charged in gunfire incident

Advertiser Staff

A 34-year-old man who was arrested Thursday night after barricading himself in an 'Aiea apartment was charged yesterday in an unrelated attempted-murder case.

Francis Kekona was charged with one count of attempted murder and two firearms violations. He was being held last night in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Police also charged Tammy Antonio, 34, with hindering prosecution after she allegedly helped Kekona hide from police. Her bail was set at $35,000.

Kekona is accused of firing a handgun at a 35-year-old man Dec. 27 in Waimalu. Police said the man was in a car and following his ex-girlfriend when her passenger, identified by police as Kekona, got out of the car and shot at the man.

Police said the man's three daughters, ages 7, 10 and 12, also were in the car, but no one was injured.

On Thursday, police received a tip that Kekona was hiding in an apartment on Moanalua Road and that he may have been armed. Members of the Specialized Services Division and hostage negotiation team were called and Kekona, as well as Antonio, surrendered without incident.
