Turkish night at Unity Church

Unity Church, 3608 Diamond Head Circle, will host "A Night of Turkish Sufi Mystic Music, Poetry and Images" at 7 p.m. Jan. 28.

Musician, singer and composer Latif Bolat, from the Mediterranean city of Mersin in Turkey, will present folk ballads and devotional Sufi songs (ritualistic music and poetry of the Anatolian mystics).

Tickets: $15. Free parking is available at Waikiki Elementary School.

SHINTO SHRINE TO HOLD CEREMONY

The Shinto shrine Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha - Hawaii Dazaifu Tenmangu will celebrate Sagicho, an ancient ceremony from the 11th century to express appreciation and purify by burning old ofuda and omamori talismans, at 2 p.m. Jan. 22.

Plastic coverings and metal ornaments from the omamori must be removed, so please deposit all old omamori and ofuda into the specially marked box beside the shrine by Wednesday. Kadomatsu and dolls will not be accepted.
