A bus carrying members of Gov. Linda Lingle's delegation in the Philippines struck a 10-year-old girl as she crossed a highway Sunday afternoon.
According to San Fernando City police in La Union province, the girl was crossing "without observing the road" when she was hit. She suffered minor injuries to her left eyebrow, eye and shoulder and was taken to the hospital for observation.
Police did not find the driver at fault in their initial investigation. However, the driver offered to pay for the girl's medical expenses, which came out to roughly 100 pesos, or about $1.90.
Lingle is touring the Philippines with a 178-member delegation to celebrate the centennial of Filipino immigration to Hawai'i.
