Imperfect love has provided much fodder for film. In honor of Valentine's Day, I present 10 unlucky and sometimes lovable losers in the game of love.

1. The Geek (Anthony Michael Hall) in "Sixteen Candles." I identified with this 15-year-old, who was little more than a stalker to Molly Ringwald's Samantha Baker. He was what every teenage boy goes through at some point in adolescence.

2. Gary (Lawrence Monoson) in "The Last American Virgin." He falls in love with one of the most popular girls in school, befriends her and watches as his horndog best friend uses and then disposes of her after learning she's pregnant.

3. Johnny Cammareri (Danny Aiello) in "Moonstruck." You're a mama's boy who is engaged to Loretta Castorini (Cher), then you lose her to your brother — an eccentric baker (Nicolas Cage).

4. Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) in "Ghost." How else do you describe a guy who has Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) in love with him, then is murdered by a thug hired by his best friend Carl (Tony Goldwyn)?

5. William Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) in "Shakespeare in Love." Shakespeare has a way with words and whispers them quite ably to Viola (Gwyneth Paltrow), makes passionate love to her, and watches helplessly as she sails off to the New World with an aristocratic weasel (Colin Firth).

6. Mary (Cameron Diaz) in "There's Something About Mary." How would you feel if you had not one, not two, but three serial stalkers after you? Such is Mary's quandary as she contends with weird advances from Pat (Matt Dillon), Norman (Lee Evans) and Ted (Ben Stiller).

7. Crash Davis (Kevin Costner) in "Bull Durham." Where but in minor league baseball can the smarter, better-looking guy lose the affections of Annie (Susan Sarandon) to an oaf of a rookie pitcher (Tim Robbins)?

8. Lord Farquaad (voice by John Lithgow) in "Shrek." Although he's far from a man of great stature, he loses his would-be wife to a green, portly ogre. That would affect any guy for a while.

9. Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger) in "Bridget Jones's Diary." You could say that Bridget made her own luck sleeping with her boss (Hugh Grant), but no one deserves her misfortune when it comes to affairs of the heart. She can't find a steady guy and her mother always interferes.

10. Marcus Graham (Eddie Murphy) in "Boomerang." Marcus is a player's player who gets played by Jackie Broyer (Robin Givens).
