Moanalua's boys, girls claim 3rd place in OIA

Moanalua outscored Pearl City, 4-3, in penalty kicks to beat the Chargers, 2-1, and claim third place in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association girls soccer championship playoffs last night at Castle High's field.

Both team earned berths in the state tournament.

After playing to a 1-all tie in regulation, the game went directly to penalty kicks, skipping the two 10-minute overtime periods.

Vanessa Butin, Naomi Shimabuku, Emi Tano and Mari Nagamine all converted penalty kicks for Na Menehune. Lauren Maeshiro, Keilyn Tanimoto and Tia Minami scored PKs for the Chargers.

After a scoreless first half, Moanalua took a 1-0 in the 65-minute mark, but Pearl City came back to tie on Chloe Maeshiro's goal at the 72-minute mark.

KAISER 1, CASTLE 0

Rachel Tomita's goal in the 68th minute lifted the Cougars over the host Knights to claim the fifth and final OIA berth in the girls' state tournament.

OIA BOYS PLAYOFFS

MOANALUA 2, LEILEHUA 0

Jonathan Baba and Jason Honjo scored goals to lead Moanalua past Leilehua, 2-0, to claim third place in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's boys championship playoffs last night at Kailua High's field.

Both Na Menehune and the Mules earned berths in the state tournament.

KAISER 2, KALAHEO 0

Kyle Niiro scored at 34:30 and Matthew Bush added a goal in the 54th minute to lead the Cougars over the Mustangs and earn the OIA's fifth and final berth in the boys state tournament.
