What are you doing New Year's Eve?
Not worrying about it today, we hope. There are more immediate concerns:
What to do tonight, for example.
Your New Year's Eve plans may be set. But if you've got out-of-town friends or family to entertain tonight, the penultimate eve of 2006, and no idea what to do with them, here are a few suggestions for socializing in the city.
For the lounge-hopping Gotham niece who insists nothing artsy and eclectic happens here after dark:
New York burlesque entertainer Leroi the Girl Boi joins Bay Area peer Kitty Chow, Cherry Blossom Burlesque, Shakti Dance Movement, the 86 List and the Hell Caminos at Cabaret Apocalyptique: A Tease in Five Acts. At NextDoor. From 9 p.m., $10. 548-6398.
For the twenty-something cousin from Omaha who loves reggae:
Pipeline Cafe's Island Reggae Bash will feature six rising local bands — Lalea, Kawao, Hot Rain, Curbside, Internal Rhythm, and Ras Youth International. From 9 p.m. 589-1999.
Or there's the veteran group Natural Vibrations performing at a New Year's Pre-Party Party at Boardriders Bar & Grill in Kailua. $10 before 10 p.m., $15 afterward; 21 and older. 261-4600.
For the aunt and uncle from Seattle who couldn't imagine jazz without cocktails and vice-versa:
Inventive, fresh-ingredient-infused cocktails from mixologist Dale Degroff and swinging jazz and standards from Rocky Holmes and Lenny Keyes at the Halekulani's Lewers Lounge. From 8:30 p.m. 923-2311.
For the brother who appreciates a rock-loaded karaoke songbook:
Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and other assorted rock gods fill karaoke joint 9th Ave. Rock House's 4,000-title-plus song book — but your bro's paramour can still get a Gin Blossoms tune in. Open till 2 a.m. daily. 738-5524.
