Pedestrian, driver injured near park

Two men were taken to the hospital, one in critical condition, after an all-terrain vehicle struck a pedestrian early yesterday on Farrington Highway near Ka'ena Point State Park.
According to the HPD Traffic Division's Vehicular Homicide Section, at about 12:15 a.m., a southbound red-and-white 2006 Yamaha ATV driven by a 34-year-old Wai'anae-area man struck a 22-year-old man, also from the Wai'anae area, approximately one-quarter mile south of Makua Valley Road.
The pedestrian was walking in the southbound lanes when he was hit, police said.
The 22-year-old man was transported to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, with multiple injuries to his lower body.
The ATV driver, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to Queen's in stable condition.

STATE AGENCIES GET AID FOR HOMELESS
Hawai'i will receive $250,000 in federal aid to help prevent homelessness and provide food and shelter for those in need.
Hawai'i County will receive $57,423 and the State Set-Aside Committee will receive $192,577 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Homeless Prevention Aid program.
