PHILADELPHIA — After practice ended and the news settled in, David Akers tried to put it all into some kind of perspective.

"There's a lot of new faces here," the Philadelphia Eagles' kicker said.

Akers proceeded to read off the list of players who remain from coach Andy Reid's first season with the team in 1999.

"Jeremiah Trotter has gone and come back, but if you take him out of the mix, there's only four of us left from when Andy first got here," he said. "That's myself, (Donovan McNabb), (Brian) Dawkins, and Tra or William (Thomas)."

Quarterback Koy Detmer became the latest player erased from Reid's original roster, but he wasn't the only veteran whose nameplate was removed from the locker room yesterday. The Eagles also released the hobbled Todd Pinkston, leaving Greg Lewis as the only remaining wide receiver from the team that played in the Super Bowl just two seasons ago.

"Both of them are great guys, and both of them did a great job for us," Reid said. "I just thought it was time to move in a little different direction."

The Eagles also restored a familiar face, re-signing quarterback A.J. Feeley two days after he was released by San Diego.

Feeley will be battling former University of Hawai'i and Saint Louis School alum Tim Chang for the third spot quarterback behind McNabb and Jeff Garcia.
