The veteran singer ("Alika" is her signature) and the hotel organization will be honored at the Waikiki Community Center's "Na Mea Makamae O Waikiki," from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Coral Ballroom. New mom and former Na Mea honoree Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom will entertain, along with kumu hula Kaleo Trinidad and Kaleo O laka Ikahiki Na O Kala, with Nihoa and Elena providing cocktail music. The Don Ho Show was packed when the show-biz veteran marked his 76th birthday Aug. 13 at the Hoku Hale Showroom of the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel. Well-wishers (some singing on stage) included Jimmy Borges, Kirk Matthews and Tannya Joaquin. In a reverse-autograph moment, 41 girls from the water polo team at Newport Beach High School (who put Ho on the "must-see" list) presented Ho with an autographed water-polo ball. ...

Comedian Augie T. couldn't sleep after his "Then and Now" concert last week at his alma mater, Farrington High School. "I was so excited!" he exclaimed. Producers arranged a surprise during taping: Two 10-year-old kids, one looking like a young Augie, the other like his then-best friend, appeared at the show. And Mayor Mufi Hannemann attended. Next up: A Sept. 3 gig at the Wai'anae High rec center — another homecoming. ...

AROUND TOWN: Richard Vida, a New York actor, producer and director, is enjoying a month in Honolulu and has been immersed in show-bizzy things. Vida, whose Broadway credits range from Thenardier in "Les Miserables" on the Great White Way and national and international tours of "42nd Street," "My One and Only," "Singin' in the Rain," "Anything Goes" and "Busker Alley," went on a docent tour of the Hawai'i Theatre, attended the Honolulu Academy of Arts Showcase, took in the "Young Artists Helping Young Artists" benefit at Compadres, and dined at Nick's Fishmarket, Dixie Grill and Auntie Pasto's in the company of entertainment types such as Andrew Meader and Joy Abbott. La Dolce Vida next month will include the openings of "Urinetown" at Manoa Valley Theatre and "Sweeney Todd" at Army Community Theatre. Then it's back to New York to direct Denise Rich's "Disco and Diamonds" benefit for the G&P Foundation of Cancer Research. ...

Princess Abigail Kekaulike Kawananakoa, grandniece of King David Kalakaua and Queen Kapi'olani, spent a weekend recently at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay resort. Her party of six took in the hotel's new lu'au dinner show, "Kamaha'o — the Wondrous Myths of Hawai'i." ...
