HAWAI'I BRIEFS
U2 reschedules stadium concert

Advertiser Staff

A U2 concert postponed earlier this year tentatively has been rescheduled for Dec. 9 at Aloha Stadium, stadium manager Kenny Lum said yesterday at a stadium authority meeting.

The final shows in the band's Vertigo tour, including an Aloha Stadium date on April 8, were postponed when an immediate family member of someone in the band fell ill. Details of the illness and the identity of the band member have not been released.

Honolulu fans were advised to hold on to their tickets and wait for a new date.

The postponement also affected U2 shows in New Zealand, Australia and Japan.

SAND REPLENISHING PUT OFF UNTIL FALL

The state has postponed the start of a sand replenishment project at Kuhio Beach until this fall.

The work was to have begun three weeks ago, but was delayed because of high bacteria levels in the sand following recent sewage spills. State officials put off the work again because of the south swell that is expected to hit in early summer.

Peter Young, Department of Land and Natural Resources director, said the beaches are now safe, but the "narrow operating window in March and April has now passed." He said the state hopes to begin the project this fall and take 30 days to complete.

The project uses technology to reclaim beach sand that erosion has washed into near-shore deposits and return it onshore to build up the beach.

THREE BOYS HELD IN SEXUAL ASSAULT

Police yesterday arrested three teenage boys on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old 'Ewa girl.

The boys, ages 14, 15 and 16, were booked for third-degree sexual assault, kidnapping and burglary. Police last night also were searching for another 16-year-old boy believed to have been involved.

The girl told police that she was at her Iroquois Point home when four boys entered without permission at about 4 p.m. Police said one of the boys held the girl down while another sexually assaulted her.
