University of Hawai'i designated hitter Justin Frash was named the Western Athletic Conference's baseball Player of the Week, the conference announced yesterday.
Frash, a junior from Camarillo, Calif., had five hits in eight at-bats (.625) in the Rainbows' two-game series sweep at Nevada over the weekend.
He had two hits in three at-bats and a run batted in during Friday's 13-4 win and three hits in five at-bats in Saturday's 8-5 come-from-behind victory. Frash's three-run double in the ninth highlighted a five-run inning and came when UH was trailing 5-4.
Frash leads UH with a .398 batting average and 37 RBIs.
Louisiana Tech's Matt Lacy was named WAC Pitcher of the Week after a 1-0 shutout of Fresno State.
Hawai'i's Steven Wright was nominated for the award. He allowed a run in seven innings with eight strikeouts in Friday's win.
Frash was the second Rainbow to be named Player of the Week. Robbie Wilder got the accolade for the week of Feb. 20.
Hawai'i has had three Pitcher of the Week winners in Mark Rodrigues (Feb. 13), Wright (Feb. 20) and Justin Costi (April 3).
The Rainbows (27-11 overall, 5-5 WAC) open a three-game conference series Friday against New Mexico State (14-26, 1-8).
This will be UH's final homestand. The Rainbows' final home series is April 28 to 30 against Sacramento State before finishing the regular season on the road.
