TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. This is Rod Stewart week, giving the young singers lots of choices. Last week, Bucky Covington was bounced, leaving four men and three women.

"Journey to Planet Earth: State of the Planet's Wildlife," 9 p.m., PBS. This is a perilous time for many species, this strong documentary tells us. This is a grim subject, but it comes with intelligent writing and gorgeous camera work.

OF NOTE

"Celebrity Cooking Showdown," 7 p.m., NBC. The second night of the competition has singer Patti LaBelle, model Gabrielle Reece and Ashley Parker Angel of the group O-Town.

"House," 8 p.m., Fox. A young woman hasn't slept in 10 days and swallows a bottle of sleeping pills.

"Boston Legal," 9 p.m., ABC. Shirley (Candice Bergen) finally gives in to the romantic advances of Ivan (Tom Selleck), her long-ago husband.
