Gas-cap price will jump 13¢

The maximum wholesale price for gasoline will rise nearly 13 cents to $2.44 a gallon Monday for regular on O'ahu, according to the state Public Utilities Commission.
That price excludes taxes and a retail markup. Hawai'i sets a ceiling on wholesale prices but does not regulate retail prices. As of next Monday, the wholesale price cap will have risen 27 cents a gallon during a two-week period.
WEEKLY PAY INCREASES 5.8%
The average weekly wage in Hawai'i rose to $714 in the third quarter of 2005, up 5.8 percent from the same period a year earlier, according to a report released yesterday by the U.S. Labor Department. The Hawai'i increase trailed the national average of a 6.1 percent increase in weekly wages to $777 during the same period.
CURBSIDE SERVICE FOR TAX FILERS
The U.S. Postal Service will continue its tradition of providing curbside service to last-minute filers of federal tax returns at its drive-by collection boxes at the airport and downtown post offices on Monday.
Postal employees will man the collection boxes from 6 to 9 p.m. at the airport and from 6 to 8 p.m. downtown. Also, 26 post offices statewide, including the airport and downtown offices, will offer late collection of mail in specially marked boxes until midnight Monday.
PILOTS SECURE $888M CLAIM
MINNEAPOLIS — Northwest Airlines Corp. pilots will hold an $888 million claim to be paid in stock when the carrier emerges from bankruptcy protection, the pilots union told members.
Northwest pilots are voting through May 3 on the tentative agreement reached with the airline last month. Their ability to secure stock in a reorganized Northwest will be a victory if pilots approve the deal.
