USF pitcher McGuigan gets conference honor

University of San Francisco senior right-hander Patrick McGuigan earned his second West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week honor of the season for the week of April 2 to 9.
The 2002 Mid-Pacific graduate pitched a six-hitter with three strikeouts and no walks as the Dons beat No. 22 Pepperdine, 2-0, Sunday. McGuigan pitched his third complete game of the season to improve to 8-1.
MORE BASEBALL
Strombach batted 3 for 5 with two RBIs, two doubles and one run. He batted .583 (7 for 12) against the Aggies with seven RBIs, four runs, three doubles and two stolen bases.
SOFTBALL
Other players from Hawai'i on the MVC roster are junior first baseman Ashley Tone (Maui High '02 of Kihei) and senior first baseman Cassie Chun-Ming (Kaiser '02 of Ho-nolulu).
WOMEN'S GOLF
Seki, competing as an individual, shot 74-72—146 in the tournament that concluded Sunday.
Stanford freshman Mari Chun (Kamehameha '05) tied for seventh with 76-71—147.
Oregon State senior Leah Whiting (Waiakea of Hilo, 78-80—158), Long Beach State sophomore Kira Murashige (Waiakea of Hilo, 79-79—158) and Portland State freshman Kayla Morinaga (Sacred Hearts '05 of Waipahu, 80-78—158) tied for 49th. Southern California freshman Shelcie Takenouchi (Kaua'i of Lihu'e) finished in a tie for 76th (167).
Lau shot 79-90—169 at the tournament that concluded April 2. She earned an NWC Athlete of the Week honorable mention nod.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
She defeated Cal Poly's Sheila Lewis, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 4 slot Sunday.
UCI sophomore Jessica Broadfoot (Punahou '04) beat Shannon Brady, 6-0, 6-4, in the No. 6 match.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
COMMITMENTS
Soo, a 2004 Kamehameha graduate, played in all 29 games as a freshman at Idaho State, making 21 starts and averaging 5.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
