TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: After the Storm," 7 p.m., ABC. After spending the two previous weeks in Florida and Mississippi, this show heads to the New Orleans area and the heart of the Hurricane Katrina devastation. The crew helps rebuild the 118-year-old First Emmanuel Baptist Church, which has more than 1,000 members, for its first services since the storm. Workers also build a playground, restore photos and reunite people with their pets. And musicians are given new instruments to replace the ones that were lost. Because this is New Orleans, that leads to music. The musicians jam and the church's gospel choir performs.

"My Name is Earl," 8 p.m., NBC. Juliette Lewis plays the girlfriend Earl jilted for Joy. Now she's back and vowing revenge against Joy for stealing Earl.

OF NOTE

"Survivor," 7 p.m.," CBS. It's time for the eighth person to be eliminated.

"Will & Grace," 7 p.m., NBC. Jack has lost his job on the talk show named after him. He wants to quit show business but Karen tries to nudge him back. Meanwhile, Will has a confrontation with his father.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. Here's a rerun of the episode that linked Marg Helgenberger (as Catherine) with her real-life husband, Alan Rosenberg. He plays a stranger who has a passionate encounter with her in a bar's parking lot. The next day he shows up as a suspect in the murder of two women who were at that bar.

"American Inventor," 8 p.m., ABC. We see tryouts in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

"The O.C.," 8 p.m., Fox. Teen dramas have never known quite what to do about sending their characters to college. Tonight, news arrives about acceptances. It gets mixed reactions.

"Teachers," 8:30 p.m., NBC. In a late change, the network inserts a rerun of this show's first episode. It's reasonably funny, with Jeff hitting on the heavy-drinking substitute teacher, in hopes of sparking jealousy in the beautiful-but-distant Alice.

"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. In a rerun, a patient has emerged from a nine-year coma.

"Without a Trace," 9 p.m., CBS. When a man turns up missing, investigators find he had child pornography. That leads to a child who has been harmed.
