Filming for the new TV series "Makaha Surf" (formerly "Boarding School") is under way in Makaha, and producers have wasted no time engaging Hawai'i's other natural resources.
The series, about a group of young women striving to make it as professional surfers, stars David Chokachi ("Baywatch"), Natalie Ramsey, Suzie Pollard, Ross Thomas and Tiffany Hines, as well as Island actors Jason Tam and Sonya Balmores.
Production manager Pixie Wespiser said filming has gone smoothly so far, thanks to an experienced local crew.
"They've been outstanding," Wespiser said. "We couldn't be happier."
The show also is participating in a mentor program with Wai'anae High School's Searider Productions program.
"Makaha Surf" is produced by Marvista Entertainment and Brookwell McNamara Entertainment for broadcast on The N, the new MTV nighttime teen channel. Twenty episodes are being filmed here. "Makaha Surf" debuts in April.
